Ami Houde Signs with La Rouge Bikinis for 2012

It is not every day that you come across a woman in the sport getting sponsored by a bikini company. That is why La Rouge Bikinis jumped right on it! Ami Houde, a professional motocross racer from Canada, has been preparing for the 2012 season after a shoulder injury in 2011. "Her positive attitude and outgoing personality is what stood out to us, and for that we believe we took a risk worth taking with Ami. We hope that by this sponsorship, we will get women racers to think beyond the track when it comes to support" says owner Kirsti Steiner, who also grew up racing motocross. Here are a few questions Ami was able to answer as she signed her contract for 2012.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, outside of the sport.
I am a full time University Student graduating my 4th and final year with my Business Management Degree. It's my biggest accomplishment of my life, I have accomplished a lot in racing but to stick out 4 years of University while trying to race and graduating with honors is the best feeling in the world. I also am a Manager at a big national chain restaurant, so it keeps my life pretty busy. I live to be busy.. if I'm not doing a million things at once, at a million miles an hour I am not myself haha! I also have a passion for making a difference and being a positive role model in my community and in my industry.

How did you get started in motocross?
My dad is why I started racing and also why I still do. He is a former Canadian Champion and a vet World Champion. He is my role model, and has always told me to “have fun” not “you better win.” I started riding when I was 2! My first bike had big training wheels on it, and I was hooked ever since. This is not just a sport, but my lifestyle. I grew up traveling around North America in a van with my Dad to race AX's, flat track, trails ...any thing. It was awesome!

In the US, it's becoming more well known that women are just as involved in the sport as men. Is it the same in Canada?
I would love to say yes, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. This year it was announced that our Canadian Women’s Nationals were getting pulled from the CMRC program because there was not enough support. We have a lot of fast girls up in Canada; Denaye Giroux and Jocelyn Facciotti, and a decent turn out to all the rounds, but we have no representative to push for a Pro Women's circuit like the WMA in america. I remember when I was little, I only worked as hard as I did so I could make it to a National level and race among the best and fastest girls and live that dream. I would hate to see young girls getting started not be able to live out their dreams to race nationals. I hope someone steps up and makes this happen.

What are your plans for 2012?
Anything and everything! haha I had some time off from nationals last year, as I was recovering from my shoulder injury, and I hope to race some WMA nationals this year. Also I have just premiered my web series “Ami and Jamie’s Moto Adventures” which is a web series about 2 moto chicks and our crazy adventures in the motocross industry, So I hope to be busy filming and having fun with that new project.

Not many girls can say they have a bikini sponsor for racing a motorcycle, do you feel this could open up doors for the women in our sport to think outside of the box for potential sponsors?
Yes of course! It’s exciting to see motocross become more mainstream and female racers being recognized for the athletes that we are in a male dominated sport! Tennis and Vollyball are out, Motocross is in. It breeds bad ass women who work hard on and off the track and are great role models for girls and companies should recognize this and want to throw there labels allll over us.

What is your biggest accomplishment, on or off the bike?
My biggest accomplishment racing is being the 1st Canadian ever to be invited to race the World Championships in Europe. I was lined up with the fastest women in the world, it was a great feeling. It was there in France I knew I had made it in this industry an all my hard work had paid off, and even though I separated my shoulder and wasn’t able to finish, I had the best experience of my life! Met amazing people, got to see a side of the racing industry that most people will never see. Also I would have to say all the places I have gotten to go to and all the people I have met and friends I've made is the BEST part of racing and what I will sit back and remember the most!

Are there any differences in riding in Canada, and riding in the US?
Riding in the US is a lot more intense! The tracks are bigger, riders are faster, and there is a whole different culture down south. I love going to Cali and Texas to ride, it’s nice getting to ride different tracks with totally different dirt then back at home.

Obviously we will not be seeing you racing in your bikinis, where can fans catch you wearing La Rouge?
Well they can follow my fan page Ami Houde on FaceBook or @AmiHoude71 on Twitter and even www.AmiHoude.com! I always am posting moto updates and will make sure to include photos of all my La Rouge Bikinis!

We are really excited to support you this season! Anyone you would like to thank?
I would like to thank Honda Canada, Winnipeg Sport and Leisure, One Industries, We All Ride, CTI, Capital, and now La Rouge Bikinis!

Ami #71 xoxo
